Team Oregon had a rough day on Quarterfinals day, scratching and clawing for each precious win in the Quarters. Only 6 of the 17 boys singles players made it through to the semifinals. Taylor Knoth and Dylan Reid will compete for a spot on Team USA in the Boys 18 Gold semis on Tuesday. The girls fared better, with 4 of 7 singles wins today. Hollee Hungeford and Krystle Boyle will also compete for a spot on Team USA in the Girls 14 semis. Lexi York will battle Erika Manilla (CO) for first place in Girls 12 on Tuesday, and most certainly will have a spot on the Esprit Team USA, as will Kaitlyn Boyle as she competes in the finals of Girls 10 against Victoria Leon (CO).
Boys #1 seed Taylor Knoth had to dig deep to pull out a 15-2, 8-15, 11-5 win over Trevor Snyders (IL). Trevor played tremendously, leaving nothing on the court while digging countless apparent kill and pass shots by Taylor. But Taylor was his trademark clutch self, coming up with the big shots when he needed them during the tiebreaker. Taylor will take on #4 seed Nick Montalbano (NY) tomorrow in the semi-finals, with the winner earning a spot on Team USA.
Dylan Reid will join Taylor in the semi-finals, with a convincing 15-6, 13-15, 11-9 victory over big Jake Bredenbeck, the #3 seed and hometown Minnesota favorite. Dylan silenced a very partisan crowd during game one with precision pass and pinch shots, forcing Jake to dive all over the court to stay in the rallies. After some of the same in game two, Jake took a timeout to change into a dry shirt, and that somehow changed Jakes entire game. Jake came back out with his typical power game, and overtook Dylan in game two. The tiebreaker was back and forth, before Dylan took control late. Dylan will meet #2 seed Brad Kirch (NY) tomorrow in the semifinals, with a berth on Team USA at stake.
Both Josh Hungerford and John Lindsay earned a spot in the semi-finals of Boys 18 Blue, while Kyle Lebow did the same in Boys 18 Red. Ryan Charbonneau will square off against Nick Riffle (CO) in Boys 16 Blue.
In Doubles action, 4 Oregon boys and 3 Oregon girls will represent Oregon in the semi-finals. In the Boys 18 semi-finals, Taylor Knoth/Jake Bredenbeck will take on Josh Hungerford/Trevor Synders. Dylan Reid/Joseph Lee will battle Brad Kirch/Nick Montalbano. The winners of these matches will compete on Wednesday for a spot on Team USA as the top Boys 18 doubles team.
Sam Reid/Zach Wertz expected to compete against Rick & Ryan Charbonneau, but the Charbonneau’s unfortunately were tripped up in their quarterfinal match today against Lanford/Kendrick (TX). Sam/Zach will try their luck against this pair tomorrow, hoping for a chance to play Marco Rojas/Jose Diaz in the Boys 16 final on Wednesday.
Holly Hungerford/Krystle Boyle will compete Tuesday for a spot on Team USA, in the finals of Girls 14 Doubles. Kaitlyn Boyle/Victoria Leon will also battle for first place in Girls 10 Doubles, versus Erika Manilla and Jordan Cooperider.
