Cascade Athletic Club was once again the host for the 2009 USAR Regional Championships and there were great matches in all divisions as 200+ players from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, and beyond came to compete in the final ORA event of the season.
Men's Open division was stacked and everything heated up in the quarterfinals with #1 seed, Chadd Westwood, defeating Taylor Knoth in an 11-9 tiebreaker. Returning Junior National Champion, Joey Lakowske, defeated #2 Chris Barton in a two games to prove he is back. Jason Samora and Charlie Pratt won against Dan Darling and Jimmy Lowe to set up the semifinals. Samora defeated Lakowske in a battle and Charlie Pratt was too much for Chadd Westwood this time setting up the Samora vs. Pratt final. Jason came out on fire and took game one with out much protest form Charlie. Game two swung the other way with Pratt shooting his way to the tiebreaker. Tiebreaker was a close battle back and forth until 6-6 when Jason kicked into another gear and chalked up a 10-6 lead and what appeared to be a certain victory. Pratt stayed focused, made an impressive side out and proceeded to climb back one point at a time and never relented the serve again, winning 11-10 in the what was one of the best Men's Open finals we have seen in a long time.
Men's Open Doubles Champions are Taylor Knoth and Joey Lakowske and Mixed Open Doubles Champions are Chris Shaw and Kim Wilkerson.
Congratulations to all of the Champions of the 2009 NW Regional Championships.
